About
Tim Jones Illustration is an illustration studio and an artist representation agency based in Somerville, Massachusetts. I'm focused on creating books for children and developing new artists.
The studio offers a range of services including illustration, story boarding, character development, and art buying for children's publishers.
A Brief History
In the early 1990s I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, and while there participated in the European Honors Program, which allowed me to spend a year studying at the RISD campus in Rome, Italy.
I've worked in both the private and non-profit art and publishing worlds. For five years I worked at Studio Goodwin-Sturges in Boston, which represents a wonderful array of illustrators and works on children's trade and educational books. I've also been a teacher in the arts, most notably working with teens in a program called Artists for Humanity, which is still thriving today in Boston.
During the last few years I co-founded Soomo Publishing, an independent publisher of web-based ancillaries for college students, which works with teaching professors to create collections of insightful, thought-provoking content. I learned a tremendous amount about the publishing industry and the web as it grew alongside the business.
After the birth of my daughter in 2006, I began the move back towards working exclusively in children's publishing by discussing representation with a small group of artists and reaching out to some previous publishing clients. The studio is in the midst of completing our first major project in 2009 and we anticipate an exciting 2010 filled with new opportunities.
Info for Artists
At this time, I am representing fewer than 10 illustrators. I am still considering new artists and love to hear from illustrators directly. If I don't have an opening, or your art is not right for my studio, I still may be able to direct you or offer some advice.
Look for up-to-date information on the blog as we move ahead.
Thanks for reading,
Tim Jones
